Dissolved Oxygen Test Kit Is Important For Your Aquarium

By Megan Landry

Dissolved oxygen test kit is a device that is used mostly by the marine aquarist so that they are able to measure the amount of O2 that has been dissolved in the water. They measure this because they have to know if there is a certain level of O2 it can affect the tank of water they have. This is something that can only be done if you understand everything in O2.

There is a certain way which the habitats of water like seaweeds, corals, as well as fish in water do react with oxygen in their habitat. Aside from that all the living things highly depend on O2. The O2 is usually used in metabolizing the nutrients. From this kind of reaction there will be a by product. This by product is co2.

To operate it you will have to fill the bottle with the water from the tank. The water should be allowed to overflow that bottle for not more than three minutes. The reason why the water should overflow is because the sampling is needed to be safe from contamination. There should be no air bubbles in the water. To avoid this you should incline that bottle slightly, after those insert a stopper quickly.

One thing that you will always realize is that not only the critters will be using the oxygen in your tank. All the dissolved organic materials that might settle down in the tank. As they are breaking down the tank they usually consume a lot of oxygen. In some cases you might find the nitrifying bacteria additives in it. These additives will multiply very fast and consume the largest portion of the O2 that was available within the tank.

To open the reagent powder you should use clippers. The contents of the pillows should be put into the kit. After that stopper the kit in best way. After you are advised to shake the bottle so that the contents mix in the best way. Shake it in the side to sides motion.

Supposing that the temperature as well as the salinity of the water is low, there will be better chances of the water holding more O2. The aquarium sizes might be different but the O2 level needed is constant in all of them. This level should be maintained to save the lives of the animals in it.

If you do not maintain the required level of O2 you will lose almost all your animals. This is because they will consume that little amount and afterwards suffocate. This is the exact thing why you will see more cases of fish dying.

Dissolved oxygen test kit are not as expensive as you may think. To add on that using the kit is very easy. When you increase the load of your livestock in the tank, it is advisable to be testing your water periodically. The best time to add a live rock is when there is an increase or decrease of the biological filter capacity. This could be a better method of filtering and maintaining the oxygen.
