Interior Designers Also Create Amazing Exterior Designs

By Vickie Daeley

If you reside in sunny Orange County, part of the reason you settled in the area is probably due to the fantastic weather we enjoy for much of the year. While trips to parks and the beach are great, it's an excellent idea to spruce up your own backyard and transform this area into a functional and beautiful living area. An Orange County interior design firm can help create the perfect outdoor living room for you.

While it's true that we use the word "interior" when we talk about professional designers, they are also trained to create wonderful exterior room designs, as well. So if you planned to buy some furniture and accessories and try to do the work yourself, it is much easier to discuss your needs with a professional and have them create a polished, cohesive design. Even if you have a knack for design, the process is far easier with an interior decorator.

Designers are skilled in knowing which colors and styles blend together well, and they also know how to make the best use of the space you have. In addition, designers can provide you with that special, custom look and make your backyard reflect your personality. If you are going to spend the money on a backyard renovation, you certainly don't want a cookie-cutter look. A designer will create a highly personal and completely unique look for your yard.

During your initial design meeting, it is wise to bring some concrete examples of what you love, design-wise. Magazine pictures, downloaded photos from the internet and color and fabric swatches all can be helpful. You also need to offer a list of all the elements you want to include in the design, and a list of things you absolutely do not like. So if you hate wicker or despise the color red, let your designer know. It is also a good idea to be clear about how you intend to use this space.

Maybe you simply want a quiet space for reading a book, enjoying a glass of wine or communing with a few intimate friends. On the other hand, maybe you enjoy throwing parties and need the space set up to accommodate large groups of people. You might want a space reminiscent of a Japanese Zen garden or an upscale resort or even a Tuscan villa. In addition, you might also need to have a kitchen area installed, as well as a fireplace or fire pit area.

Another fun option is to have your designer create one main living space with a kitchen, couches, chairs and other central elements but also sneak in one or two hidden gems. Perhaps a swing or hammock can be tucked into a corner of the yard and in another area, you might set up a charming caf table. Don't forget to think about including every inch of your yard when talking to your designer.
